General Characteristics

Designed by an ENT surgeon for the ENT surgeon, the DigiPointeur is fully focused on sinus, oto-neuro and maxillo-facial surgeries. With a modular design, the user friendly interface allows the loading of the patient CT scan file (pre-operative step), patient file analysis (virtual navigation, 2D and 3D measure, 3D rebuilding) navigation (surgical step) and the patients files management (post-operative step). The matching of the radiological images is done by an original-surface matching system. This high accuracy system simplifies all the handling and reduces the risk of errors.

Rapid installation

Surgical Navigation systems are now well known for reliably adding surgical security and saving operative time. However the time spent to install, calibrate plus match all the radiological imagery and check the protocol often decreases the practical interest of such systems. Using a minimum of operations for the installation and the checking protocol, the Digipointeur is operational within 4

Simple to use

Computer Assisted Surgery is based on a complex technology, the performance of which depends not only on technological know-how but also, to a large extent, on the way the system is implemented by the user team. One of the basic ideas of Digipointeur was to offer a user friendly product that really is as simple and effective as possible. This was achieved by reducing the surgeon-dependent issues and utilising an electromagnetic tracking system. It is in this spirit that the system of surface matching was finalized: it avoids the clarification of anatomical landmarks usually considered necessary with other systems.

CT Scan without markers

The CT scan file used by the Digipointeur is a conventional ENT CT scan. Furthermore the protocol doesn't require a helmet, stickers or a screw on the head of the patient during the radiological protocol, removing any need for the surgeon to be present.

Connectivity

The Digipointeur has an integrated module of importation for the radiological file, compliant with DICOM-3 which is the international standard file used with all the current imaging devices. The link with the imaging device from the Radiological Department can be carrying out with different possibilities: CD, USB flash disk, Ethernet Network, Zip.

Patient referencing: all the ENT surgical approaches available

To navigate, a small sensor is placed on the patient. There is a choice of two different attachments - the headband and the buccostat. This flexibility is important in ensuring the Digipointeur is useable for all ENT surgical approaches.

Ancillary systems

Standard work instrumentation consists of 6 rigid suction cannulae, both straight and curved. These are reusable, and each Digipointeur is supplied with 2 sets. Furthermore, the surgeon can use other endonasal microsurgery instruments with the optional universal adaptor.

A further feature of importance is the ease in that instruments can be changed during the surgical procedure. Recalibration takes only 5 seconds and does not require any intervention outside of the surgical field.

The electromagnetic localization is the best adapted for ENT surgery

The Digipointeur uses an electromagnetically tracking system with a very weak field. The proven accuracy is 0.112mm in an operating volume size of 25 x 25 x 25 cm. The system is reliable in the ambient environment present in an operating room, which under normal conditions has no significant influence on the system. However should there be any disturbance the Digipointeur uses an auto-control system which will immediately indicate this to the surgeon.

Contrary to the navigation systems with infrared tracking systems, the Digipointeur allows for the natural body and surgical movements of the surgeon. There are no cameras with a field of vision that can be easily disturbed - the machine adapts itself to the surgeon and not the opposite.

An electromagnetic system provides reliability and robustness for the system of localization. Finally it also means there are no parts that require routine replacement on a regular basis. Digipointeur guarantees to avoid the mechanical fragility of other systems.

Video signal integration

The video inject mode allows the surgeon to look at a unique screen to perform the link between the navigation and his anatomic landmark

Navigation screen recording

Using an optional DVD recorder, the navigation screen allows the recording not only of the whole video of the surgery but also the position of the instrument in axial, coronal and sagital views.

Option to record images through the navigation screen

With the Digipointeur, there is the ability to save pictures of the navigation screen (endoscope view and/or navigation view) and to record it (JPEG format) in order to archive or to add it to a surgical report.

Security & Reliability

Digipointeur offers a greater safety by limiting the complexity of surgeon-dependent interventions and automatically carrying out a significant routine of checking. The data-processing language used is renown for its stability and the routine of piloting is protected to ensure reliability in all circumstances.

Surgical Developments

Designed from the start with the flexibility to evolve in line with surgical needs, the Digipointeur offers users a product which is always better adapted to the situation. These upgrades are available as part of the service packages that we offer.
